Review:
The opening cut of Ron Flynt's new release sets up the outing perfectly with twinkling organ playing that immediately sends the listener back to pop rock's heyday.  It's Faces meets Petty, meets Seger, meets Springsteen, meets Badfinger.  On and on, "Big Blue Heart" is a tastefully constructed solo debut that draws on the best of the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's pop rock.

Ron Flynt is hardly a household name.  His credits come from his seminal pop band 20/20.  20/20 had a few radio hits back in the late 70's, and three members of that band have rejoined Ron in his new band "the Bluehearts."   He has once again assembled a group of musicians who are experts with tight, accessible, tasteful, arrangements, and make the 11 Flynt originals sound like radio classics.

The use of the word "pop" here comes with some trepidation, only because of the words morphed definition.  In album rock's heyday, it was used to distinguish between bands like Led Zeppelin and Bob Seger.  Or Pink Floyd and Tom Petty.  It meant the rock was not hard or psychedelic.  It meant the music did not require outside stimuli to be comforting.  Today it resounds what was then "bubble gum".  Do not be confused here.  Ron Flynt and the Bluehearts "Big Blue Heart" is comfortable pop rock for those 30 and 40 somethings who long for an album's worth of rock in it's bare form.  No windy turns or deep cliffs.  Just finely crafted music, supporting understandable lyrics, with enough guitars and percussion to stimulate the senses.

If you find yourself disappointed by the recent efforts of your favorite classic rock icons, this one should resurrect your faith in rock & roll.  Ron Flynt and the Bluehearts understand your emptiness, and will fulfill your needs with "Big Blue Heart."  - Gary C. Moore
